PSYC 3250 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Standard Deviation, Utility, Concurrent Validity
Document Summary
Criterion-related validity will provide means to determine whether tests will serve to reduce paricular types of decision errors and whether the gains in the accuracy of decisions are worth the cost of tesing. Mathemaical decision theory makes a disincion between a decision and a predicion: decision. Involves choosing a paricular course of acion: predicion. Correlaion between test scores and a measure of the outcome of a decisions (the criterion) provides an overall measure of the accuracy of predicaions (or validity of a decision) A criterion is a measure that could be used to determine the accuracy of a decision. The ideal: predicive validaion strategies: goal is to determine the correlaion between test scores, obtained before decision making and criterion scores, obtained ater decision making, example of steps. Obtain test scores of group of applicants, but do not use the tests in hiring decision.
