Document Summary
Psych3350: chapter 5 summary development and socialization. People acquire culture through socialization (cultural psychology depends on this) Our ability to learn and transfer cultural information differentiates us from other species (i. e. , chimpanzees) Culture is learned, not genetic we come into this world cultureless but are prepared to adjust to and seize meaning from any environment we are put into. Who we are as a person is greatly influenced by the culture you were socialized in literally every human has been socialized into some kind of cultural environment. Sensitive period: period of time in an organism"s development that allows for the relatively easy acquisition of a set of skills. If an organism misses this period it has a more difficult time acquiring knowledge. Humans can continue to specialize throughout their lives in certain domains not as strongly as earlier in life. No other species is as dependent on their language skills or has as complex a language system as humans.
