What happens when people move to a new culture? that"s different from their original (cid:523)or heritage(cid:524) culture culture"s norms for relating to others. Moving to a new culture involves psychological adjustment. The longer immigrants spend in a new culture, the more similar their emotional experiences become to those of other people living in that culture. The more people adapt to a new culture, the more they acquire the host. Honeymoon phase excitement and enjoyment of new experiences, foods, etc: usually comes to an end. Crisis/culture shock stage between 6 and 18 months, participants in a study typically experienced the most negative feelings of their sojourn: experiences become tiring and difficult, homesickness can be quite strong. Culture shock the feeling of being anxious, helpless, irritable, and homesick that one experiences on moving to a new culture.
