A world without death general and personal consequences: main point is that our individual and societal patterns of functioning are connected with death in one way or another. Amish: dress in all white, neighbours make sure family is fed and do the digging/covering. Social consolidation after death one major function of the death system is to meet the challenge that individuals and the group face after the loss of a member. Killing: states that allow and the variations of capital punishment pg. 2 forms of killing deserve special attention: warfare and sacrifice. War as a function as society: history with greeks and romans basically saying it is needed to be cost-effective, perpetual peace (1795/1932) however clausewitz was still able to persuade it e. g. utopia (1516) pg. 87 was necessary: einstein & freud problem is our own propensity for violence, putting a dump in the area of those who are already at greater risk of death because of discrimination and poverty.
