Document Summary
Both the oldest and youngest members of the psychological community. Old because discussion of the nature of knowledge, the value of reason, and the contents of the mind date back to at least ancient greek philosophers. Used to be favour and behaviourism derived, which is different from today. A change from the new to old occurred due to evidence accumulation, indicating that people plan their responses, use strategies to help themselves remember and organize the material they are learning in their own unique way. Interest in concept learning and problem solving soon gave way to interest in how knowledge is represented in the mind and particularly how it is remembered. Today, there is renewed interest in learning, thinking, and problem solving. Cognitive view of learning: generally agreed-upon philosophical orientation. Cognitive psychologists assume the mental process exist, that they can be studied scientifically, and that humans are active participants in their own acts of cognition.
