The old thinking was that only wealth and social status dictated how you would perform in school. The quality of student-teacher relationships (conflict, dependency on the teacher, the teacher"s affection for the child) in kindergarten predicts behavioural and academic outcomes in later years from grade 1 grade 8. Emotionally responding to child"s needs results in growth in reading and mathematics. A child with behavioural issues in kindergarten will overcome this behaviour if the teacher has met their emotional needs requirement. Persistence in communication is key: effective teachers establish positive relationships with their students. Standards make sure all teachers can articulate the knowledge, skills and attitudes that a teacher should possess. It outlines the professional standards that are an expectation to win public trust: this contributes to a safe and high-quality learning environment. Standards boost morale of other teachers because their talents are displayed in front of the public.
