It was hard to standardize, compare and replicate. Post 1900s the functionalist approach was used until wwii often avoiding the classical philosophy practices adapting favorism for phenomena and behavior. This can be seen as a extreme case of functionalism. We look at 3 aspects in this chapter. How watson the founder, saw behaviorism in 1912. Difficulties that led to its weakening influence after 1945. Usa had a culture known as utopian enthusiasm also known as (cid:498)manifest destiny(cid:499) and saw itself engaged in creating the first true modern technological civilization and high future endeavors in terms of science and technology. He had little sympathy in continuing philosophical concerns regarding the nature of consciousness and mind-body. Commitment to a positivist view of science as the capability of studying over, visible and measurable phenomena. Impressed by contemporary biological work using a reductionist approach towards psychology. A reason for this was the rapid development of the discipline of genetics.
