SOAN 2120 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Scatter Plot, Percentile, Standard Deviation
Document Summary
Coding data systemaically reorganizing raw numerical data into a format that is easy to analyze using computers. Entering data most computer programs will need the data in a grid format (row = respondent, column = variable) Range the largest score minus the smallest score. Percenile the percentage of scores a score is higher than (99th percenile = beter than 99% of scores) Standard deviaion the average distance between all scores and the mean. Can only be used for data measured at the interval or raio level. Tells us how far cases are from a relaionship (regression) line in a scaterplot. Ranges from -1 to 1 with 0 meaning no relaionship. Covariaion variables vary together (ex. higher income usually means higher life expectancy. High precision points hug the line. Bivariate tables present the same info as a scaterplot in a more condensed form.
