Girlhood: lots of graffiti, drugs, and vandalism associated with skateboarding, mainstream and underground practices of skateboarding, no matter what park: very few girl skateboarders, girls often relegated to sideline as watchers, fans and girlfriends, skate girls sometimes feel unsafe: can be harassed, threatened, or rude comments made in relation to girl skateboarding, gendered nature of skater culture: girls have to work much harder and overcome more obstacles than boys to gain skater status, study: punk culture, girls as backdrop characters, lives revolved around finding boyfriend, looking good and being promiscuous.
