In general, it reflects a positivist approach to research: they want standardized information about a large number of respondents in a cheap manner. It takes for granted that all will understand and relate to the questions in the way the researcher wants. In-depth interviews: allows people to explain things in their own terms and how it is meaningful to them, some are semi-structured while others are not structured at all. Can diverge in conversation by three methods: has the task to bring the discussion back the topic when it veers off track, can never engage in passive listening. Intrinsic sense of reciprocity feel free to share your own ideas: fundamental understanding that the participant is the expert here. Always ask or clarification: good first impression, be on time and allow enough time for each interview and make sure you have everything you need.
