To understand real level of crime, go to uniform crime reporting (ucr) system. Crime is reported by the police to the government"s statistical agencies. Canadian centre for justice system (ccjs) is responsible for gathering and analyzing police reports from across the country and these reports are released to media. Ucr data are crimes known by the police to have taken place (violent crimes, property crimes, and other criminal code violations) Ucr2 survey collects data: incident base reporting system. Ucr data represents some alleged law-breaking behaviour that does not appear on the records as survey classifies incidents by most serious offence (mso) Crime rate= # of police-reported crimes x 100 000 / population. Reported in the first instance by the public. Volume of crime may be a function of size and resources of the force. Questionnaires that seek anonymous reports from respondents about offences that have committed over a selected period of time.
