BIOL 2410 Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Human Physiology Part 3
Document Summary
Centrosome: the cells microtubule organizing center, assembles tubulin molecules into microtubules: contains two centrioles typically and each centriole is a cylindrical bundle of 27 microtubules arranged in nine triplets. Cilia: short hair like structures projecting form the cell surface: the core of cilia contains nine pairs of microtubules surrounding a central pair. Flagella: have the same microtubule arrangement as cilia but are considerably longer: eg. Sperm cells have flagella (only one in humans) Mitochondria: double wall creates two separate compartments, inner part is the matrix and it contains enzymes, ribosomes, granules and dna, then the intermembrane space, in between the membranes and is involved in atp production. Endoplasmic reticulum: synthesis, storage, transport of biomolecules, ser, in liver and kidney cells detoxifies or inactivates drugs, in skeletal muscle it will store calcium, also makes lipids, rer, protein synthesis and chemical modification.
