how a person feels and thinks about his or her job.

Values – things that people consciously or unconsciously want to seek or attain.
Commonly assessed work values:
• Pay
• Promotions
• Supervision
• Co-workers
• The work itself
• Altruism
• Status
• Environment
Value-Percept Theory – a theory that argues that job satisfaction depends on whether the employee perceives that his
or her job supplies those things that or she values.
Dissatisfaction = (Vwant – Vhave) x Vimportance → (How much of a value an employee wants – how much value the job
supplies) x how important the value is to the employee.
• Existing discrepancies get magnified for important values and minimized for trivial values.

personality.
• Asks two things about their supervisors:

necessary resources?
o Are they generally likable? → values and beliefs similar to employee?
• Strong correlation

• Can they help me do my job? → critical
• Do I enjoy being around them? → they can make or break workweek
