Module 2 thinking critically with psychological science. The need for psychological science thinking, memory, attitudes operate on 2 levels conscious and unconscious. Good ideas in psych seem familiar thinking same thing but fail to write it down intuition can be wrong if informed by countless casual observations. Overconfidence tend to think we know more than we do: consider anagram example. We are naturally eager to make sense of the world ( rage for order ) prone to perceive patterns interestingly, random sequences often do not appear random. Despite patterns, outcome of one toss gives no clue to the outcome of the next. Overall, hindsight bias, overconfidence, and tendency to perceive patters in random events leads us to overestimate our intuition; scientific inquiry can help sift reality from illusion. Critical thinking critical thinking thinking that does not blindly accept arguments and conclusions; examines assumptions, discerns hidden values, evaluates evidence, and assesses conclusions can lead to surprising findings and debunking popular presumptions.
