Mental representations ie. schemas, stereotypes that we activate. Occurs when we expect someone to say something or expecting behaviors from specific cultures. Power: authority. influence/control over another person ie. bouncers at clubs. Status: respect/social prestige ie. ghandi (admired but he doesn"t control your outcome/gives you required resources) A professor is high in power + status. Privilege is provided/taken away by the way we are. 3 components of bias: discrimination is people treated differently based on group member. Behavior: prejudice is negatively biased evaluations towards a group that is applied to all individuals in group. Affect ie. i don"t like black people: stereotypes are traits/qualities thought to be associated with specific groups. A group"s position in society determines how warmly/competent we see them. High status groups seen as deserving of title. Low status groups seen as lazy and deserving of title.
