We often modify ourselves to support the way other people want to be seen. Ex. able bodied people often mask their discomfort upon encountering someone with a disability by acting nonchalant or stressing the similarities they share. Communicators manage their identity in 3 ways: manner, setting, and appearance: manner consists of a communicators words and nonverbal actions. Ex. some physicians are friendly and conversational whereas others adopt a curt and impersonal approach.
