Common purpose or goal: group members have something they wanna accomplish together. Interdependence: success of group members depends on if everyone is doing his/her part. Mutual influence: influence others by giving ideas, challenging opinions, listening. Ongoing communication: for group to exist, members must engage in regular communication. Interacts are in positive nature, reflecting support for other group members. Method of residues: instead of choosing immediately, group eliminates leader contenders until only one person is left. Occurs in 2 phases: those deemed unsuitable for leadership are quickly removed (too quiet/rigid/aggressive, group enters in second phase, communication hat lead to elimination in phase 2s talking too much. How not to emerge as a leader: be absent from group meetings, contribute little, volunteer to be secretary/record keeper of group discussion. Indicate that you are willing to do what you are told. 4: come on too strong too early, try to assume role of joker, demonstrate knowledge of everything, demonstrate concept for leadership.
