The rates of participation in adult education varies across countries worldwide. Australia, canada, new zealand, uk, us are 35-50% There has been a general increase in participation with adult education + training (from the last 25 years) --> this is due to the rise of human capital, and the requirement of aet for employment. Personal and social related training is also important (non- job related) Informal learning --> the study measured a wide range of informal learning techniques. There are more informal learning in places like switzerland, but less common in the us and canada. Swiss citizens often get sent to cultural trips (e. g. trips to the museums) more often than canadians/us citizens. The swiss does not use as much technology as the us. Women, older and low socioeconomic backgrounds, low educated, low skilled in low leveled jobs (or unemployed), immigrants, are least likely to participate in adult education. Groups with lower levels of educational qualification are less.
