Document Summary

The big bang is a long held theory of how the universe came to be. It states that the physical universe and everything inside it came from a small point of pure energy in a highly compressed state and at a high temperature. The rapid expansion that came from this point of energy resulted in a drop of density and temperature and within seconds, particles like protons, neutrons, and electrons began to appear. All minerals are crystalline which is a solid in which the component atoms are arranged in a particular, repeating, three-dimensional pattern, typically expressed as flat faces arranged in geometric forms. Like all minerals, they vary in size from microscopic to large enough to see with the naked eye. Crystallography = measure of the geometric properties and internal structure of crystals: atomic structure: built upon individual, identical, structural units of atoms or molecules called unit cells. A crystal can consist of a few cells or millions and billions.
