Document Summary

Bmi preferences, at least over the upper part of the range, are influenced by socialization. However, low attractiveness ratings for very underweight women are universal (evolutionary terms, they are less likely to be fertile). Judgment of beauty depends on a blend of cultural and universal factors. If caucasians rate japanese faces, they will rank in a similar way as when. Individual cultures rely on similar cues for attractiveness. Choice blindness- when asked why they made a choice on attractiveness (even when they were tricked into thinking they made one choice when they really made a different one), people will give equally detailed and persuasive answers. Study- presented men and women with photos of people along with humorous or nonhumorous statements that those people had supposedly written. Women- humorous statements increased the attractiveness of the people in the photos. Follow up study found that male subjects find their partners sexually.
