Document Summary

Robert hooke, the first observer of a cell came to the conclusion of this very important base of life without the use of microscopy. Robert hooke was the first scientist to get a better look of objects at a much smaller size; at this point in time astronomers had the same objective but for further distances. He was able to look at the structures of cork, in essence dead cells of tree bark; he viewed that there were small rooms in which he called them cellulae. The structure of the remains of the dead cells that were capable to be viewed was the cell wall; it was thought there was some sort of machinery that divides the cell. All organisms are composed of one or more cells. The cell is the basic structural unit for all living organism. Cells only arise from division of pre-existing cells. There is a wide range of sizes (nm to m) to a cell.
