At the beginning there was chaos, then gaia (earth) and eros (sexual love): the principle prerequisite for all life. includes tartaros, a dark underground realm. Chaos generated erobos (dark infernal realm similar to tartaros) and night, who after union with erebos created day. Gaia without union produced ouranos (sky), mountains and pontos (sea) Gaia"s children by ouranos, a race of divinities called the titans, and kronos, the youngest and most devious of her offspring. As well as the cyclops, forgers of the thunderbolt and three monstrous hundred-handers each with 50 heads and 100 arms: the god"s succession: The poems most violent scene: a struggle for succession gods to not willingly give up power, nor does their power diminish. For a god"s offspring to succeed them, they are locked into an unwindable war, or, the older god can be circumvented by the younger ones provided the younger shows ingenuity and daring so it was ouranos and kronos.
