It comes from experiences as children: learning to say yes or no to things. Set limits on interactions, establish and stick to role and recognize when boundaries are breached: affection/openness: the need to feel liked by others. Reflects our desire to give and receive love and support from others. Caring and recognition shows that we are important to people. When we feel liked, we are more open with that person. When the needs aren"t met, people become underpersonal or overpersonal.
