Sports page: a case study in the manufacture of sports news for the daily press. Why the sports page of the metropolitan daily newspaper are so regularly saturated with news of the major commercial spectator sports while noncommercial sports receive only a modicum of coverage. Accounts of lived workspace of newspaper sports reporters and editors at one large. Canadian daily to see why it is so saturated with commercial sports. Data gathered during 4 months of field research in the newsroom of the bytown. Includes non participant observation and extensive interviews of the 10 people at. The data gathered was about the day to day routine. Also interviews with media relations staffers at major commercial sports organizations (hornets and flames) He did his interviews mostly on the fly, but some scheduled longer ones (all tape recorded). He tried to become friends with the news people so he could talk to them more naturally.
