Criminology illuminates the privileges of those at the top of the social hierarchy. In history it started that people were attributed to crime and deviance to religious forces. Believing that god wanted to punish or test them. During the middle ages deviance was blamed on the devil. Emilie observed that deviance will exist because social norms are never strong enough to prevent al rule breaking.
