2008: 2. 2 million criminal code incidents reported to police. Property crimes: when one tried to obtain property without violence, or without violent intents. Sexual assault is the least reported violent crime (up to 90% unnoted) Violent crimes normally occur between people who know each other, but property crimes are opposite (usually do not know the other individual) The rate of most other criminal code offences declined in 2008 from 2007. Both genders believed taking public transit alone at night is the most fear educing. Women"s fear of crime has decreased slightly, but men"s fear is still lower. Avoidance behaviours: lifestyles changes designed to reduce one"s risk of becoming a victim. Defensive behaviours: specific anticrime measures designed to reduce one"s risk of becoming a victim of crime. 15-24 is the age group that commits the most crime. We are told as children to beware of strangers, even though we know most violent crime is committed by people we know.
