The basic qualifications of a prospective police recruit are having a canadian citizenship, being able to complete a rigorous physical abilities test, at least a grade 12 education, integrity and honesty, and good judgment. Some preferred qualifications that may be advantageous are knowledge of a second language or culture, an important skill set in policing a diverse society, volunteer experience, and some postsecondary work. Competency based training is the recruit training that focuses on the acquisition of specific skills and knowledge. This includes legal studies, the use of force, and various skill sets. Peo"s are important in police recruiting because they are qualified recruits who are currently in service but are interested in leaving their current police service, as such they are invaluable and provide experienced and well trained candidates.
