Not in control of what they eat. Religious people may not be able to eat as many things as others. It can help our health but it can also hinder our health. Food a symbol of institutionalization: prisoners get frustrated by lack of ability to choose, symbol of freedom lost. Avoid advertisements, flyers, commercials, etc. to avoid deprivation. Avoid thoughts/celebration of holidays, anniversaries, traditions to minimize hurt associated with deprivation of those. Arguments, verbal conflicts with prisoners or authority figures centered around food (ex: portion sizes, types of food served, change of food schedule, Prisoners refuse to go to cafeteria because of high rates of aggression it is one of those few public spaces. Prisoners forming groups with goal of getting specialty foods (ex: ethnic community attempting to request kosher foods). Groups that sit together based on race, offence type, district, gangs, etc. New prisoner sitting in designated seat may be violent reaction.
