Intractable differences cannot be resolved through a simple compromise arrived, after some bargaining and negotiation: conflicts do not lend themselves to compromise solutions. In some int"l conflicts/affairs, parties refuse the involvement of an intermediary: e. g. India and pakistan both reject any external facilitation, mediation, or arbitration in the conflict over kashmir. Conflicts occur at different levels intrapersonal to interpersonal, intra group, inter-group, intranational, interstate, international, and global. Conflicts involve differences of views: interests, needs, identity, desires, values, and rights.
