The bible gives people an idea what it is to be human: the moral vision that is given does not take into consideration of modern biotechnology. After the fall of the roman empire, the roman catholic church became the most powerful organization: provided people with unity, solidarity, and security. Meaning of existence during life comes from a pure soul. After you die, if you have a pure soul you will not be subject to the pain and torture but exist in everlasting bliss . Based on their meaning for life and death, stories and narratives were made that gave an explanation to the following: human origin, why we behave the way we do, fate/destiny, evil. Saint augustine and saint thomas aquinas: both treated the bible as the main source of knowledge of the origin of humans, nature, destiny, and relationship with god. Many people still follow this way of thinking.
