Document Summary
Motivations arise from the interplay between nature (bodily push) and nurture (pulls from our thought processes and culture) There are 4 main theories associated with motivation. Drive-reduction theory: inner pushes and eternal pulls interact. Hierarchy of needs: some needs are more important than others. Instincts used to be used to name behaviours not explain them (those sluts were using the word in the wrong context like a bunch of bitches) Caused instinct theory to collapse (like the little bitch it is) This is the idea that a physiological need creates an aroused state that drives the organism to reduce the need (ex: eating or drinking) The aim of this is to maintain homeostasis (not explaining this one) We are pushed by drives and pulled by incentives (positive or negative stimuli to lure or repel us) Human motivation aims not to eliminate arousal but to seek optimum levels of arousal.
