Document Summary

Psy1102 chapter 4: nature, nurture and human diversity. Behaviour geneticists- study differences weigh how much heredity and environment plays a role in behaviour. Twin and adoption studies: control the environment while varying heredity. The environment shared by a family"s children has virtually no discernable impact on their personalities. Parents are more likely to influence their childrens attitudes, values, beliefs, manners etc. Adopted children tend to be more altruistic and self giving (since adoptive parents tend to be that way too. : control heredity while varying the environment. Identical twins are monozygotic, thus have the same genes (genetically identical) twins are dizygotic, essentially the same genetic difference as brothers and sisters. Identical twins may not have the same number of copies of those genes. Thus one twin may be more predisposed to mental illness. Placental differences (1/3) can also contribute to twin differences due to difference in nourishment.
