Three categories of neuroimaging techniques: measure electrical brain activity. Eeg measures rhythms of electrical activity of neurons. Erp (event-related potentials) measures electrical activity of specific brain areas in response to a specific stimulus or action of interest: distinguish physical structure of brain. Mri (magnetic resonance imaging) brain imaged by the creation of a large magnetic field. Dti (diffusion tensor imaging) measures the diffusion or movement of water molecules through neural tracts that connect brain structures: assess the functional and metabolic activity of the brain. Pet (position emission tomography) measures metabolic activity through injection of radioactive positron-emitting isotopes fmri (functional magnetic resonance imaging) determines the functionality of brain structures with the use of powerful magnets and detects changes associated with blood flow. Temporal lobe: houses wernicke"s area (language: wernicke"s aphasia persons are unaware that the words they are producing are incorrect and nonsensical. He or she may have severe comprehension difficulties and be unable to grasp the meaning of spoken words.
