Inability to delay gratification impulsivity, addiction, etc. in future. Need distraction or strong metacognitions (talking yourself out of temptations, figuring out what is most important). Very strong predictor of success (can be more important than innate intelligence). People that keep trying even when facing negative feedback results. Find pride and competence and skills that you develop even in the face of failure. Reward comes from mastery of skills/task as compared to tangible rewards. Allows people to persist in spite of failure. Learning to take charge of behavior and thinking.
