poor control of anger b/c it prevents the effects of serotonin
o Associated to violent behavior and risky decision making
o More likely to affect men b/c men only have one copy of the X; affect 1/3 men
o women have X the other X chromosome is more likely to make up for the shortened (if any)

• Double standard – women are emotion, men are rational (stereotypic) but men rely on the physical
expression and women rely on the cognitive access of emotions
o Few gender differences but experience is stereotypic
• Maternal Instinct – myth is that need emotions are determined biologically and largely insensitive to
environment or experience
o Maternal deprivation – baby monkeys go to warm blanket rather than hard model with milk
o Bonding is a variant
o Caring for children – as a responsiveness or as a pleasure

• Many feel that men fail to express their feelings
• some professions or cultures require ppl to mask their emotions
• difference can be thought of in terms of display of rules
o some are restrained and others are okay; society demands following rules
culture – many similarities on abstract levels; in specific situations there are vast differences
• emotion is the same though; sadness, anger, shame may be expressed differently or masked
