We should try to make environment healthy. Persuasion: an attempt to change another s attitudes or beliefs. Health promotion programs try to get people to change what they believe to be true (what they consider good). Assumption is to change peoples behaviors by presenting scary accounts of what will happen to them if they continue unhealthy behavior. If you arouse fear people may shut down and avoid it. Self-efficacy: belief that you will succeed at particular behavior. How much a person feels responsible for a given behavior. Loss framing messages: emphasize negative effects of not engaging in healthy behavior. Losses: not doing healthy behavior, you will lose something (life).
