Document Summary
The study of memory has its roots in the early days of psychological research. Hermann ebbinghaus provided the earliest research on memory phenomena: example of his contributions include pioneering work on phenomena such as the forgetting curve, primacy effect, and regency effect. Memory = a fundamental psychological process in that much of our cognitive abilities rely on it. Children can remember more when they are getting older figure 7. 1: Change with age in length of time children can remember. Example: infants rapidly learn that kicking moves a mobile; days later, babies will kick immediately, showing that they remember the connection between their action and the mobile"s movement. Major neurological structures involved in memory include the hippocampus, amygdala, and frontal cortex. The hippocampus and amygdala, which are important for initial storage of information develop by. 6 months of age, but these structures and while the frontal cortex continue to mature. Memory strategies include any activities that promote remembering.
