Behaviour can be complex and in uenced by many factors, genetic and environmental, so simple behaviours are easier to study. The xed action pattern is a stereotyped behaviour. Displays were the rst behaviours to be analyzed; they are patterns of behaviour that are species speci c and are always the same in individuals considered. Stereotyped because they are always similar when produced. The nervous system processes stimuli and evokes behaviours. The bird has a challenge to recognize the stimulus that leads to the behaviour it has to lter out the correct signal (the egg) from the surrounding noise (everything else) Animals process many different kinds of info in 3 dimensions. Neuron effects are short lived and local a neuron can connect to another neuron or cause muscle contraction. Stimuli can provoke widespread, prolonged effects by producing hormones which affect multiple cells in target organs at the same time.
