EESA06H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 19: Erosion Surface, Metamorphic Rock, List Of Index Fossils
Document Summary
Uniformitarianism: geologic processes operaing at present are same processes that operated in past. The present is the key to the past. Actualism: same processes and natural laws that operated in the past are those we can actually observe or infer from observaion as operaing at present. Based on assumpion that physical laws are independent of ime and locaion. Numerical age (absolute age): age given in years or some other unit of ime. Relaive ime: the sequence in which events took place, than w/ the number of years involved. Contacts: surfaces separaing two diferent rock types or rocks of diferent ages. Formaions: bodies of rock of considerable thickness w/ recognizable characterisics that make each disinguishable from adjacent rock units. Straigraphy: subdiscipline of geology that uses interrelaionships between layered rock (mostly) or sediment to interpret the history of an area or region. Principle of inclusion: fragments included in host rock are older than the host rock.
