Book of Nehemiah Summary ➢ Nehemiah is the son of Hachaliah ➢ Told from first person POV  Speaker: Nehemiah ➢ Background – Jerusalem wall is broken down and the gates are burned down with fire – Jerusalem is left in ruins ➢ Nehemiah is moved by this – he please, cries, and confesses to God of the Israelites' sins ➢ Sin involves not keeping the commandments of God, but rather transgressing. ➢ He begs for pardon on behalf of the Israelites. ➢ Cupbearer for KingArtaxerxes ➢ Nehemiah travels to Jerusalem to help rebuild the wall, and attains permission from the King to do so. ➢ Sanballat, Tobiah & etc – the pple that are sent alongside Nehemia by the King – they are angry about the building of the wall and want to fight against Jerusalem ➢ Builders are constantly on the lookout – building & hold
