What is city? Which statement are true:
-Greek word for city: Polis
-City: Political partnership. - Aristotle, Politics.
-City State: most important political entity.
What did “Aristotle – Politics” said what is called the city or the political partnership”:
“It is clear that all partnerships aim at some good, and that the partnership that is most
authoritative of all and embraces all the others does so particularly,, and aims at the most
authoritative good of all. This is what is called the city or the political partnership”.
Brief History of Cities:
-City States: almost independent state.
-Centres of power and wealth.
Examples:
Ancient world: Athens, Sparta, Rome
Medieval City States: Venice, Florence
