Sigmund freud proposed the theory of dirves in order to explain human psychological motivation. Psychoanalytic media scholars explore how media texts reflect these powerful forces: psychoanalytic theory: an overview. This theory can be differentiated by the theme drives: somatic demands upon the mind: how the mind registers the body"s internal. Biological needs and transforms them into motivating forces or drives. Freud states: the pleasure principle all these types of drives seek satisfaction through the achievement of these objects. There are objects of drive that stimulate a desire: ex) sexual dirve arises b/c of biological needs for sex and can be stimulated with contact with objects. Freud"s theory of drives attempt to account for the wide vairty of motivating tastes and practises that we uniquely manifest among human beings. Freud reality principle when we flex our drives to fit the possibility, law or social convention: b/w pleasure seeking and the realistic limits placed on that activity, human mental structure is born.
