Now, Canada is a knowledge” economy because we sell knowledge and expertise
70% of Canadian GDP is from services

Business success will require individual the business to attract and retain the best people
The Human Resource Function
Predicts Human Resource needs
Locates the best candidates
Selects the best employees
Provides training to new employees
Design and administer pay and benefits
Provide counselling and assistance
Recruitment
Ensure vacancies are made known to the widest range of people
Ensure that the applicant pool is as large as possible
How? Ads in newspapers, ads in specialist magazines, job fairs, head-hunters, word-of-mouth, etc.
Selection
Match applicants to the company
Pick the most appropr iate candidates
How? Application forms, references, aptitude tests, on-the-job tests, interviews, etc.
Orientation
The sooner people become comfortabl e, the sooner they will become productive

Remuneration
Remuneration = compensation = more than just salary
Includes pensions, medical benefits, housing, holidays, cars, and memberships
