MGTA35H3 Chapter 7 (online): MGTA35 – Speeches - Chapter 7
Document Summary
Great speakers are able to use these delivery behaviours to enhance their speech without appearing over- the-top. Delivery should enhance but not detract from the message. Effective delivery appears conversational, natural, and spontaneous. Your delivery should be comfortable for you and your audience. Develop your message first and then revise your words for delivery: delivery naturally flows from your message. When selecting a topic, pick something you have passion or conviction. Makes it more interesting to the audience: build a good delivery on a foundation of the basics. Great speakers are able to polish highly nuanced delivery skills. Maintain focus on eye contact, avoiding nervous mannerisms, and speaking clearly. The five modes of delivering a presentation are: memorized, manuscript, extemporaneous, impromptu, question-and-answer. Each mode is appropriate for different topics, audiences, speakers and situations. The memorized mode of delivery is one in which a presenter has committed a presentation to memory.
