The book concept of mind presents a solution to the mind/body problem that has to come to be called logical behaviourism. Logical behaviourism is a thesis about the meaning of the mentalistic terms we use in ordinary speech. Logical behaviourism tries to describe what we mean when we talk of an individual"s thoughts, beliefs, intentions, dreams and sensations. Logical behaviourism advances both negative and positive claims. The negative part criticizes other views of the mind. The positive part offers an account of what mentalistic terminology means. The attack on the ghost in the machine . According ryle, common sense is committed to the idea that mental states are inner causes of behaviour. We see behaviour (the drinking), but we don"t see the beliefs and desires that cause it. Because the beliefs and desire to drink is. Ryle called this the ghost in the machine . Ryle also held that common sense embraces dualism.
