Document Summary

Stimuli such as food, water, pain, elicit different types of responses. Only has an effect if it is associated with an unconditioned stimulus. In pavlov"s experiments the neutral stimulus was a tone that was paired with meat. Learning is a process by which behaviour or knowledge changes as a result of experience. Pavlov studied dogs, he came upon the discovery which lead to classical conditioning. Classical conditioning learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus powder, hearing the tone would elicit a salivation response. Behaviourism, a line of inquiry focused on observable behaviours rather than unobservable mental events. A stimulus is an external event or cue that elicits a response. An unconditioned stimulus (us) is a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response without learning. An unconditioned response (ur) is a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus.
