Mahzarin banaji at harvard and colleagues used brain imaging to study racial attitudes. These findings don"t mean that the white students who responded were afraid of the unfamiliar black people --> only those students whose scores on the implicit association test (iat) indicated negative attitudes towards blacks. The iat (computer test) measures reaction times to assess whether people associate + and - words w/ certain groups of people. 2-in the 2nd study, the researchers showed a new group of white students pictures of famous black people (e. g. , denzel washington and. Michael jordon) --> the amygdala was not activated this time.
