Ex: of 1600 adults who have been diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorder, only 30% were receiving some form of therapy. Approximately two-thirds of people with mental health issued do not seek help from the mental health system. There are many barriers that prevent or delay people from seeking psychological treatment. One problem - no objective, easily definable line between mentally healthy and mentally ill and no litmus test that can tell a person with a high degree of certainty that they need to seek help. People are motivated to not see themselves as mentally ill, so much so that they minimalize their symptoms, basically tricking themselves and others to think that they are healthier than they really are.
