Social psychologists study the interactions between the person and the situation. Behaviour is a function of the person and the environment, this challenged freudian theories of early 20th century. This viewpoint painted a picture that a person"s behaviour guided by psychological dynamics that were rooted in the persons distant personal past. This challenged behaviourism w/ its persons past history conditioning. Social psychology focuses on the present moment, the situation a person happens to be in a particular time is a key influence on behaviour. Lewin (force- field logic; physics to psychology): a person"s behaviour was the consequence of sets of forces operating on the person. Force-field logic: analyzing the forces operating in the situation and determining which forces to change.
