Personality: a characteristic pattern of thinking, feeling, and behaving that is unique to each individual, Chapter 12 notes: personality and remains relatively consistent over time and situations. Idiographic approach: creating detailed descriptions of a specific person"s unique personality characteristics. Abraham maslow wanted to understand people who lived up to their full potential, self-actualized : his work started work on trying to find what makes humans thrive and develop full potential. Personality trait: a person"s habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving: trait descriptors useful as short-cuts to understanding people. Gordon allport (1930s) created a list of 18 000 english words that could be used to describe an individual"s physical & psychological attributes.
